Monday 2020 Movie – Storyline :

Two Americans (Sebastian Stan and Denise Gough as Mickey and Chloe) in their mid-thirties living in Athens, who meet in the heat of summer one whirlwind weekend. When Chloe’s time in Greece is drawing to a close, she decides to give up her high-flying job back home and explore whether one weekend’s passion can stand the reality of the inevitable Monday.

At a party one hot summer night in Athens, Greece, Mickey is introduced to Chloe. The attraction between the pair is immediately palpable—so palpable that before they know it they’re waking up naked on the beach on Saturday morning. Unfortunately, they wake up naked and surrounded by families, children – and police, who wait for them to dress before taking them into the station. But when they get there, the captain orders the cuffs removed and asks the cops exactly what they expect to charge them with. When the cops reply, “Indecent exposure,” the captain snorts and tells them to sign his book and go away. Chloe has left a toxic relationship and is leaving for America in two days, but her purse is in the house where the party was. Since Mickey can’t get Argyris, his friend and business partner, on the phone, he invites her to join him on an island where he has a DJ gig. They spend the day on the island, dancing and getting to know one another. By the end of the night a romance has developed and Mickey tries to convince Chloe to stay in Greece; she rebuffs him, and when Argyris brings her purse to her apartment, they part awkwardly.

Review of Monday (2020 Movie):

This movie is almost the definition of intriguing. In the entire first act of the movie, I was thinking to myself: “I like it, but where is it going?” Well, it went somewhere, but not far. The first act start of very interesting and kept me wanting more, but after a while a started to lose interested. The problem with it is that it’s showing a big portion of these characters’ life’s, but without a big plot or story it’s start to become a bit tedious. There’s a ten-minute scene in the second act about a failed party, but it could have accomplished the same with 3 minutes. And the same counts for the wedding, and another party. While there are so many situations that are dragged out, it could have used that time to show some background for these characters. There a lot of character development, but we don’t know much about their history, which is sad because these are very complex characters. This would have made the emotional and darker moments a lot better. I never had a moment where a felt like I knew these characters. There was always more going on, but we never really got to that. It doesn’t have to with the performances, because they are excellent. It just never fully got together for me. Started of strong, but without buildup and background I couldn’t get behind it at the end.
